Processing of personal data as part of the activities of the Council for Mass Media

The content of this page is outdated and will be updated soon. The up-to-date privacy statement of the CMM is available in Finnish here.

The Council for Mass Media publishes on its website and in its annual report the names of the members, alternate members and employees of the Council as well as the elected members of the Management Group of the Council for Mass Media and the organisations they represent. The Council does not disclose the previously mentioned persons’ contact information to outsiders.

The data of complainants do not form a general personal register, but each complainant’s name and contact information are only included in the complaint they have drafted. The complaints are separate. They are stored in the following manner:
Complaints made with the electronic form are stored under proper protection by the web service administrator. Complaints sent in by post are stored in the Council under proper protection. All complaints are also stored on the controller’s server under proper protection. If desired, the complainant can ask the Council to remove their data.

The name of the complainant is always released to the editor of the medium that the complaint concerns and it will also be known to the members of the Council. Editors have committed to adhering to the instructions of the Council, which state that the name of the complainant is public information but shall not be published. The contact information of complainants is not disclosed to outsiders.

All decisions of the Council are archived. The archived decisions are stored in the National Archives of Finland.

The Council for Mass Media recruits public representatives and employees. Personal data related to recruitment are stored under proper protection on the server of the controller or of an external service used by the controller. The data are removed when the recruitment or a separate longer storage time agreed upon with the applicant ends.
The Council maintains an email address list for the purpose of sending bulletins (mostly in Finnish). You can subscribe to the list or request the removal of your name by sending an e-mail to Jukka Hiiro at [email protected].
More information about the processing of personal data in the activities of the Council for Mass Media will be given by Susan Heikkinen at [email protected].
